The Georgia Way morality play is a smokescreen to appease the contributing supporters without having to spend the money necessary to operate championship athletic programs.
This comment wins. Anyone who honestly
believes we are doing things the "right way" is kidding himself. It's a front to maintain status quo.
This might be true to some extent but there's no doubt that UGA has higher ethical standards regarding athletics. Blame or congratulate Jan Kemp or whoever but it is what it is.
It is also a reality that UGA admins have chosen to focus on academics as a much higher priority that football. They would likely argue that if they had more money to spend aka donations, then they would be able funnel more into the football program. In light of their budgeting priorities, I could not really argue with this perspective. They are spending at a level balancing priorities which has kept our university profitable. Our football program has been competitive under Richt and close to championship level on several occasions/seasons.
It appears we need more investment in the football program to get it over the hump to consistently compete for championships. However, given the current budget, what funding needs to be reduced in order increase the budget for football? Give their priorities, it won't be anything academically related. So again, I would suggest that we need an infusion of cash from a new source with football strings attached.

Don't think the whole Jan Kemp fiasco has anything to
do with our current issues of kicking players out for drug
and disciplinary problems.Pretty sure it goes back to the mid
2000's with multiple player arrests (some of it was BS open
container infractions) but others were a little more serious.
Anyway, the narrative was that the program was out of control
and CMR was soft and wasn't doing much about what was going
on.He was also getting hammered and by the AJC,ESPN etc on
what seemed liked a daily basis.
I believe all of what's going on today is an overreaction by CMR and
the admin to what was going on back then. They all had rabbit ears
to the publicity UGA was getting.
