Here's the morning column of David Morrison On Odom breaking down his coaching pedigree. LINK

He would seem to be a home run hire, but if it came at the cost of Coach Kul the price would be too great.

Actually with his track record of success I'm surprised an NFL team hasn't made a run at Kuligowski.

My guess: I've said before that I think GP is gone after next year. He just won Coach of the Year in SEC, he's getting married next month (to a society blonde) He pays his ex $250,000/yr "for as long as he is the head football coach at the University of Missouri", He knows he ain't gonna beat the bigs in the conference, and he's in his 60s.

Now, you think Steck hasn't talked this all over with GP? If GP is staying a while, Steck is making $600K while the former MSU coach made just over $100K. Steck may not be kept with a coaching change at MU...and he's been a bridesmaid at 83 different schools over the years.

I say Steck is grabbing at a chance to be the top dog (with no better offers out there)...and getting out while the getting's good.

But, of course, this didn't come from my chat with GP over a couple jumbo drinks.

Thanks. I've been following Odom since he left the staff. When he went to Memphis to be DC, I actually thought if he did well he could be a potential replacement for Steck, if Steck moved on for some reason. As long as they can keep coach Kul on board and happy, I'd be more than fine with Odom.

As I mentioned on the related thread on the Rant main board, one of the upsides to promoting coach Kul is the opportunity to bring some fresh blood on to the staff, hopefully a new position coach with contacts and a proven track record of recruiting in SEC areas. We don't know how the staff changes will shake out at UF, but there should be someone available from that d-staff when the smoke clears there who should fit that bill.
