The Citrus Bowl will take the highest non-rotation bowl SEC team. Likely Georgia or Missouri. But with contractual obligations, who will the Citrus Bowl get to replace the Big Ten team? What a total clusterfrick.

Michigan State, ranked No. 8 in Tuesday's College Football Playoff rankings, likely will head to the Orange Bowl if No. 1 Alabama wins the SEC championship game Saturday. The next highest-rated SEC team behind Alabama is No. 10 Mississippi State, but neither Michigan State nor Mississippi State plays before the final rankings and bowl pairings are set. If a Big Ten team goes to the Orange Bowl, the league will not have a team in the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl. If only one other Big Ten team -- the league champion -- makes a Playoff semifinal or another New Year's Six bowl, the league would have eight eligible teams for seven contracted bowl spots.

Buffalo wings and citrus. Just a weird combination that should be a clusterfrick enough.

That doesn't make sense. Why wouldn't it just go to the next team in line? Its a much higher payout then the other bowls the have below it.

That's what I thought. The best I can find is that the contracts for the other bowls under the Citrus bowl explicitly say that the #3 team goes here, #4 team goes here, etc. and those bowls aren't willing to let the Citrus pick.

They should just let us and LSU have rematch there. Georgia or Mizzou can have the peach

Maybe that's why the SEC re-negotiated their bowl-selection process. Since every team gets the same cut, it doesn't matter who goes where financially, as long as every bowl gets filled.

They have a deal with the ACC if this happens, so it would probably be Clemson. That most likely would rule Georgia out.
