Somebody is going to waste a high draft pick on Sammie. I get the allure of the speed, size and freakish athleticism, which can make up for a lot, but his hands just aren't there yet.

Not even close.

23.9 yards per reception this season (3rd best nationally), 21.5 yards per reception last season, and the mahority of that is coming straight through the air. You can't teach that type of skill-set. He is a vertical threat that can create separation even when the defense knows whats coming, and beat safety help as well. By comparison Darius Heyward-Bay couldn't crack 15.4 yards per reception throughout his entire collegiate career despite his elite timed speed.

Sammie Coates is a lot like Cordarrelle Patterson out of UT 2 years ago, except he's not TOTALLY lost as WR. I'm also not sure if Sammie would ever be willing to play STs as a returner or if he'd be good at it. Patterson was utterly and completely lost as a WR in college. He got to the NFL and has by all accounts put in the work necessary to learn how to run a route and make the most of the pure athleticism. Sammie...I'm not sure if he'll put that work in to get the reward.
