UK and the fans have been agitating for a new Arena for the past several legislative sessions; something along the lines of the Yum Center in Louisville. Rupp is a great atmosphere and is a good place to see a game, if you are in the lower arena or near the bottom of the upper arena at courtside. If you are in the rafters, then you are paying $50.00 and can't see anything without binoculars.
anything new on the renovation/replacement front? I know UK and the city had a "falling out" over the summer on the costs of the renovation.

Right now it's basically in a holding pattern.
And the thing with Rupp is it always been more about the experience vs. amenities. They're going to pack you in like sardines and it's steep enough in the upper arena that if you fall you're not going to hit for a few rows down. It's a lot of fun though.

It's all about the bonds. The state couldn't/wouldn't finance it last session and the City is really the party pushing the upgrade because the think a more modern facility will attract more conventions/concerts, etc. UK has had some other building project priorities so they didn't really get behind the effort this time. I think ultimately UK wants an on-campus arena while the City will do everything in their power to keep it downtown. This dispute may be what ultimately keeps UK from getting a new arena for a while.
