is exactly why I have never understood the "free play" mentality.
1) You might not know that the flag has been thrown or not and 2) even if you do see a flag, how do you know the call will be offsides?
Figured this belonged here over the rant since its a generic football thought.

because if it was anything else such as false start, illegal motion the play would have been blown dead.

He did the same vs Mizzou or Auburn, can't remember which one, and it made me mad at the time because he immediately tossed up a fade to the endzone and there's no way he could have seen the flag. They did end up throwing the flag, but it's not a great decision.

yes but if it is a holding call, the play continues and the defense simply declines the penalty.

And unless you literally see him throw the flag as it is snapped, there's a chance it's a holding call. And at that point you're just overthinking things as a QB.

The stupid play by the QB isn't what bothers me. It's the obvious 1 for 1 attitude of referres which is obvious CYA attitude. They gave us a PI in the 3rd then tried to make up for it with a call at the very end of the game. While it may have not been a game decider it was one that killed any ability to provide a game decider.

Silly play by our QB, but he's young. Never assume the flag has been thrown.
More disappointed that our receivers didn't fight harder for the ball in midair. Again, never assume that a flag will go against the opposition.
Shitty way to end a game, but them's the brakes sometimes

I'm under the impression that QBs are expected to throw deep when they sense offsides.
It was a smart decision but bad throw by Allen.
