Frank did a lot of good things but his micromanaging wasn't one of them.


I yield to no one in my love of Broyles, but hell, he used to watch game film and meticulously comb over the next week's game plan on Sunday nights with Holtz. Orville sort of glosses over it in his book, but it's plain as day in hindsight. And the memos to Hatfield's staff about how "your head coach believes in you more than I do -- prove me wrong" going into the '88 season was pretty uncalled for, and created a toxic environment.

People can say what they want about Long, but he's about as hands off as it gets in terms of oversight of coaches, and it's no wonder why Bielema would rather coach under a guy like Long than a guy like Alvarez.

I'd like to read Orville's book. I'll bet it's a good one.
