Not in the same manner as you choose between a BMW or Mercedes, but in most cases, yes. Though I think for many it can be looked at like a choice that was made for them through life experiences, environment, etc.

There are almost certainly cases where there is a genetic predisposition toward it, though I think that is rare since I choose not to look at being gay as a mutation and it is clearly not a gene that would lend itself easily to reproduction.
