If you were one game away from playing for a national championship, and then you lost and had to play some shite team from another conference right before you sign on to an NFL roster making you worth millions of dollars are you really going to try that hard?

The SEC is best argument isn't the right argument. The best resume argument is the one to make. If 2 SEC teams have top 4 resumes, they should be in based on the resumes. Not all SEC teams are equal.
