Ole Miss climaxed.
And you were born.
I find that disturbing, Wolfie.

You cut off the "on" at the end. It makes more sense if you use the whole word instead of wondering what a "secti" is other than a regional Misssissipp spelling of the lyrics "ahm 2 secti 4 mah shurt"
(Before you get your hackles up even further, I'm Mississippi born-and-bred.)

I think you're confused. Look at the cop in the middle holding like crazy. He's clearly a Bama lineman.

I was standing in a drug store in Bay Springs, Ms., listening to the end of the Egg Bowl where we tied them 10-10 that put us in our first bowl in years.Beat NC in the Liberty Bowl when it was still played in Philadelphia.

Gas cost 29 cents a gallon.
Maybe up north our out west ... but in the South it was more like .22-.25 cents a gallon. I could buy a gallon of gas for a quarter, cut six or seven lawns with the gas at $1.00 per lawn, and was making serious money as a kid.
The average American home cost a little over $12,000.
Maybe up north or out west but the average home in the South around that time was well below $12. More like $9k. You could buy a nice Jim Walters 1,000 sf home back then for $5k.
The Dow Jones closed at 762.
I had no clue what the stock market was in '63.
Alcatraz Prison closed.
I remember that well - it was big news. I remember watching the new report and the prisoners being shipped out. They all had these grey pants and shirts on and they were handcuffed to the front with these black trench coats draped over their shoulders. It was the first time I had ever seen real prisoners in handcuffs in a jail setting.
Dr. No, the first James Bond film, is shown in U.S. theaters.
Went to see that with my oldest brother and his date at a drive-in theater in a car my brother had borrowed from his rich best friend. I was just an 11 year old kid but the movie fascinated me. It was only the second movie I had ever seen on the big screen in my life at that time. The first one was in the movie theater a couple of years earlier. Swiss Family Robinson.
The Coca-Cola Company introduces its first diet drink, Tab cola.
Tab Cola - Be a Mind Sticker. Have a good shape. Man I remember those commercials.
Patsy Cline is killed in plane accident.
The news was huge. Imagine if Beyonce was killed in a plain crash tomorrow ...
Hitchcock releases special effects extravaganza "The Birds".
I never got the big deal about it. I remember everyone talking about it but us country boys were always like, "You're scared of birds? WTF"
Yogoslavia names Tito President for life.
Wasn't a big deal.
Zip Codes implemented in the US.
Zone Improvement Plan. It was a big deal to us and taught in school at the time - yeah, I guess it had to be around '63 or so.
Until then we had Rural Routes in the country district codes in the cities.
Kennedy is assasinated.
Everyone remembers that day.
Martin Luther King delivers "I have a Dream "Speech.
It aired that night on all three networks, that specific part of the speech, and it was magnetic ... the words. I remember sitting there watching it with the family and no one really made a sound for the minute or so they aired.
The Beatles release their first album.
Had no clue who the Beatles were at the time. It was The Beach Boys, Andy Williams and Peter, Paul and Mary who were big. But out in the country, where I lived, there was only one star ... Johnny Cash and around that time we all knew "Ring of Fire" by heart and were trying to learn it on our guitars.
Cleopatra and To Kill a Mockingbird are box office winners.
Cleopatra was big because of the amount of money spent to make the film and because E.Taylor and Richard Burton were cheating on their spouses on set and that was a major no-no at the time. There was major scandal. I used to hear my mother and sisters yacking about it all the time.
Roy Orbison and Buddy Holly owned the charts.
Not true. Not in '63. frick. Buddy Holly died in '59, how the hell did he own the charts in '63? '63 was The Beach Boys and Johnny Cash.
Mr. Ed and Andy Griffith were the big tv shows.
Yes they were. But the top TV shows had to be Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights followed by Bonanza. The Fugitive was another great show back then. The Twilight Zone, Gunsmoke.
Ole Miss won their last SEC football championship.
Johnny Vaught had them playing ball back then. Ole Miss was big time. No one disliked Ole Miss. They were The South. They had Rebel flags and their mascot was a Confederate Colonel. They played Dixie. The first big time college football game I ever remember listening to was with my Dad in 1959, and we were talking about this the other day. We were visiting family in Memphis, (my Dad's Sister had died and she lived out there), and we listened on the radio to the LSU/Ole Miss game. I think the final score was like 7-6 or something. There were some Ole Miss fans in the parlor with us and they were yelling and screaming and I got all caught-up in the excitement. That was '59 when Aunt Mabelle died and I kept following them for years afterwards right through the sixties. There were some serious, and I mean serious, battles between Ole Miss and LSU in those years from around '59-'64 or so. LSU had Jerry Stovall and Ole Miss had Dunaway and Crispino ... those games used to be epic.
Discuss politely please.
I just did.
The question should be ... what happened to Ole Miss that caused them to not be as competitive after the sixties?
