Players to Watch: Vols vs. Rebels

It would appear I picked a good time to start following OM despite it being a lousy time for the Vols to take on the Rebs. Even so, I thought it might be useful if fans of both did a thread on players to watch, especially since we rarely play. So here goes....
DEFENSE:
A.J. Johnson (LB) - Likely needs little introduction but here are some things I can tell you. AJ is 4th all time @UT in tackles and if you don't know we've had some incredible LB's going wayyyy back. He's also having a banner year and is all over the field, showing speed we never thought possible. He is our field general on defense (no doubt about that).
Jalen Reeves-Maybin (WILL LB) - JRM is a true sophomore. Ranked 6th in the SEC for tackles, 5th in TFLs. He's had an INT, fumble recovery, sacks and averages 8.2 tackles per game (he fed Okie their lunch). Also notched his second 10 tackle performance against UGA. He's consistent and FAST.
Derek Barnett (DE) - Barnett is the very first true freshman (or freshman) to EVER start on Tennessee's DL. He's been simply amazing and the surprise of this freshman class. Quite simply he's a star in the making. He's explosive and very dangerous. And while he's notched plenty of tackles and TFLs for the Vols what is amazing (to me anyway) is he keeps getting better every game. Even now he's disruptive and a playmaker (some have compared him to Nkdemiche (sp?) as a frosh).
Cam Sutton (DB) - Arguably the best corner in the league. Cam is a true shutdown corner and knows how to lay the wood. He's the best player on the team and is looking more and more like Eric Berry.
OFFENSE
Justin Worley (QB) - His leadership is invaluable and while he's not the most talented passer he's deadly efficient, especially with time. NOT the same Worley from last year.
Marquez North (WR) - Most NFL ready player we have and best offensive player BUT he's been severely limited because he's been blanketed. Took a vicious hit last game.
Jalen Hurd (RB) - Incredible player who will be a franchise RB. Dangerous, fast and the total package. Dinged up from the UF game and may be limited. Also, the oline severely limits his production but Jalen's YAC is just incredible. Give him a good block or even the smallest crease and he will hurt you. (Not that our OL can do that with any regularity - once in a blue moon).
There's more but that should do for now. Would very much like to hear more about OM players to keep an eye on.

On a serious note, thanks for writing this up. I enjoyed reading it and I will definitely keep an eye out for the players you mentioned.
For us, beyond the obvious player Robert Nkemdiche, keep and eye out for Marquis Haynes and Tony Connor defensively. On the offense, the TE Evan Engram is always fun to watch.

I thought Hurd was hurt?
Isn't Sutton a freshman or a red shirt freshman?
A.J. Johnson = beastest beast to ever beast.

Thanks for the that, prof... Well done.
Here's my Ole Miss writeup:
OM Defense: We have Tony Conner
OM Offense: Tony Conner rides a bike to stay loose while waiting on our offense to get off the field.

I feel pretty dumb thinking Conner wasnt all that he was hyped up to be at South Panola. He never played coverage and would just headhunt the entire game
Always excited to see some SP kids buck the trend of flaming out in college

Defense:
Robert Nkemdiche (DT) When he isn't busy smoking bongs or being a pOur MANs cris jONes, he's disrupting the backfield worse than Sonic breakfast does to my stomach. He gets shite for not having awesome stats but just keep an eye on him on every replay and you'll see why he is the tits.
Tony Conner (S) He turned down Saban's flowers, chocolate and love song outside his window, and has been a badass ever since. If you throw it into the flats he will lay out more vicious hits than a Vikings RB at Chuck E. Cheese.
Serderius Bryant (OLB) was born in a more ancient part of the world. Raised in a prison pit used to break a man's will. But sometimes the pit throws something back. We pulled a real Auburn with this kid as we took him in after he was excommunicated from the League of Shadows.
Bo Wallace (QB) may have the hair of Scarlett Johansson and the downtime of Robert Downey, Jr. in the early 90s, but he's been solid the last few weeks. He has checked down, taken sacks, thrown it away, all the while having time to throw game-winning touchdown passes and fricking the opposing defensive coordinator's daughters week in and week out.
Laquon Treadwell (WR) is obviously sooooo much worse than Sammie Coates, Amari Cooper, Travon Dural, Charlie Tweeder, etc. but has drawn a lot of safeties over the top that have kept his stats at bay. He's as vital to our offense as any. Terrific blocker on the perimeter, great hands, and he talks more shite than Kanye West at the Apple Genius Bar.
Laremy Tunsil (OT) is a brick wall. Get used to it early on. It's easier to get laid while getting past the fat friend on her period in need of a pizza and Greys Anatomy night with her girls than it is Laremy.
Those are the obvious ones, but a few others are:
Defense:
DE Marquis Haynes
DE Fadol Brown
CB Senquez Golson
S Cody Prewitt
CB Kendarius Webster
P Will Gleason
Offense:
WR Cody Core
WR Vince Sanders
TE Evan Engram
WR Quincy Adeboyejo
OG Rod Taylor
And if you want to watch someone suck, keep an eye out for our placekickers.

Worley definitely has potential to do well. He has been a very accurate QB this year.
I just don't like this matchup for UT. The best chance of beating the Ole Miss D is with a power run game, and UT can't really do that.
We want jet sweeps to Pig Howard and 5-step drops from Worley.

Hurd dinged up his shoulder in the 2nd quarter against UF. He was good to go vs UTC but they wanted to rest him for the beating he's probably going to get this week.
And Sutton is a true sophomore. I think he's got a strong argument for best CB in the conference but I may be biased. Watching him and Treadwell lock horns should be a treat.

Is he better than VH3 or Senquez Golson?
Posted on 10/15/14 at 10:27 am to SouthMSReb
I haven't seen much of Golson yet so I can't comment on him but I absolutely do think Sutton is better than VH3. He is a true lockdown corner in the VH3 mold (but two inches taller) and has insane ball skills when QBs actually try to test him. Sutton is also an outstanding open field tackler and will routinely blow up screens on his side of the field. Here's a play from the OU game for example
Treadwell will probably be the toughest matchup he will have faced in his career so far so I'm really looking forward to watching that unfold.

Golson is the best CB in the nation right now. Raw talent, VH3 is miles ahead of everyone.
