Garrett - Absolutely not. He has been by far the best player on this defense.

Williams - No. He is the second best d-lineman we have.

Obioha - Maybe, but right now he's in good shape.

Mastrogiovanni - Yes, but I don't know if Walker is ready. We know Chevis isn't and don't know if one of true freshmen will be ready

Harris - Yes, yes, frickING YES. Harvey needs to permanently start over him as soon as he's healthy and Harris needs to never see the field again except in garbage time or obvious RUN situations.

Watts - NO!

Burns - Yes. Were Noel Ellis not redshirting because of health issues, the job would be his.

I mean I'm not happy about the performance last week but I think it's fair to wait until the season is over to start making threads like this

I'm going to remain focused on this year and hold out hope for continued improvement from guys that will be expected to play in 2015

Watts seems like he does well in passing situations but not in running ones. But he is a true freshman, so I'll hold off and see if this trend continues next season.

Oh and you left one out:

Mark Snyder--see Harris.

Our starting linebackers have combined for:

67 tackles
4.5 tackles for loss
1.0 sacks

Through 6 games.

Our starting defensive backs have:

115 tackles
6.0 tackles for loss
0 sacks

The fact that our starting safeties have more tackles (71) and as many tackles for loss (4.5) as our starting linebackers is horrifying.

fricking Darian Claiborne. Could have a much better linebacking corps if he wasn't such an idiot.

And losing Hilliard was very tough. Our backers would actually be half decent if those 2 were with us today

Not much you can do as a DC in terms of blitz packages when your linebackers can't get more tackles and TFL than your starting safeties.

Hilliard (1.0) and Washington (2.0) have all of our linebacker sacks this season.

I'm not saying they don't suck, because they do, but who are better options? My point is that these same guys will have to contribute going forward

I know knee jerk reactions are your thing, but this post is absurd

Blitz packages aren't the problem. It's a lack of run defense, especially when you know that's what the other team is doing.

This was a large problem last year too.

At what point does the excuse "well, they're young and they'll hopefully get better" no longer fly? When top-rated recruits cancel OV's (Malik) and/or decide to start taking other OV's elsewhere (Daylon's done it once--though he later cancelled them--would he do it again)?

yeah basically way too early. But Harris is better in run support, I just don't think he has the size to muscle guys out for the jump or high balls.

Not sure about defensive starters that should or shouldn't lose their jobs.

I do think that at some point Snyder need to be accountable for our guys being so far out of position at critical times.

We are something like 75th in total defense and 3 of our 5 games were Lamar, Rice, and SMU. We obviously have better talent than this. Not saying we should be top a top 25 defense but not 75th either. MSU has a very good offense but USCe is not good offensively and Arkansas is basically a rushing team but we made their pass game look pretty damn good.
