The Minnesota Vikings have placed star running back Adrian Peterson on the Exempt/Commissioner's Permission list, essentially deactivating him, and ordered him to keep away from all team activities until the legal proceedings against him in a child injury case have been resolved.
quote:
While we were trying to make a balanced decision yesterday, after further reflection we have concluded that this resolution is best for the Vikings and for Adrian. We want to be clear: we have a strong stance regarding the protection and welfare of children, and we want to be sure we get this right. At the same time we want to express our support for Adrian and acknowledge his seven-plus years of outstanding commitment to this organization and this community. Adrian emphasized his desire to avoid further distraction to his teammates and coaches while focusing on his current situation; this resolution accomplishes these objectives as well.
We will support Adrian during this legal and personal process, but we firmly believe and realize this is the right decision. We hope that all of our fans can respect the process that we have gone through to reach this final decision. -- Zygi Wilf and Mark Wilf

For using a switch? This is bizarre.

Bob Kraft to Minnesota: "We're hanging you out to dry on this one so we can keep Goodell and the NFL office out of this news cycle.
You mad? Deal with it"
I'm sure that's how it went down.
Carolina was next on the call list.

For beating a 4 year old with a switch to the point of drawing blood in multiple places, hitting his ball sack and basically tearing his arse up from butt cheeks to ankle.
It was over the line of discipline. That being said, I don't think he's an abuser for the jollies but just doing what his folks did to him growing up. The media firestorm is ridiculous and counterproductive. This should be a teachable moment and instead we get all of this...

The media is going to do whatever it takes to establish distrust and chaos - it increases ratings and viewership.

Sure they will. Doesn't mean it's not ridiculous.

In his defense what did the 4 year old do?
(This is just a joke.)
That would look rough to someone who wasn't accustomed to seeing it, though, so I can definitely understand now.
I thought it was just a light smack, not something like that.

He pushed his brother off a videogame motorcycle
And that's also a problem. I think a lot of people defending peterson, maybe 50% or so, haven't actually seen the photos and assume it was similar to what they got as children

I use spankings, unapologetically, and even I recognize a far better punishment there would have been to make the kid stand and watch while his brother played the game he could no longer play.

Exactly. Scars and cuts and bleeding are not a good exchange for something stupid like that

Spankings aren't beatings

this pleases me since the saints play the vikings this week. I also hope this move can lead to me dishing out a few running backs to acquire arian foster in fantasy

And hitting a kid with a stick until he bleeds isn't a spanking.

I don't know, I bet the kid doesn't push his brother off a video game again.
