Everything we have is based in science but everyone is based in emotion and rationalization; we're a philosophical culture living in a technological world.

The net effect is that an increasing proportion of the population is becoming useless to the advancement of the human species.

The emotion, rationalization and philosophy you mention are the deterrents to necessary purges that would afford selection of the best humans for a hyper-technological society; one that is destined to grow beyond its humble beginnings on earth.

Perhaps, however the overall numbers of contributing population continues to rise.

No, I'm not speaking of the philosophy itself. I'm saying that emotion and rationalization are innate to us, that's how we form our decisions. There a psychological mechanism to it, and it can be explained through science. (not fully yet)

But it goes deeper than than. The mind is but a clump of tissue and neurons, themselves but a clump of cells, themselves but a clump of molecules, themselves but a clump of atoms. It all operates according to anatomical, neurobiological, and physical law. We could derive the machinations for all mind activity, including the totality of human consciousness. (we haven't done this, the machinations behind a "thought" are still largely a mystery, meaning the existence of the soul and our current cultural belief in mind-body dualism have not been disproven). Our minds to their core operate on scientific law. The mechanism is not fully explained, but it could one day be fully formulated.

Now at that point someone could conceivably take all the formalized principles of the human mind, physics, psychology, neurology, and develop a unifying algorithm. The algorithm would cover all potential input and output of the human mind. This is when "propaganda" takes a far wide definition. It's now simply stimulus-and-response, the exact input is known for creating the exact output. It is supported by science, mathematics, and formula. They could sway the culture to any belief imaginable, using only scientific method.

That is the extreme situation. That is the point at which someone could have total manipulation. We're not close to there yet. But do we have "partial" manipulation? Do we?

Do we?
