I'm pretty sure for us it is Curtis Dickey in 1978, with 1146 yards. 3-time NCAA 60-yd dash champ. He was kinda fast, in other words. Played against him in high school, though "played" is used loosely here.
ETA: Ack! Forgot Woo Woo Woo! George Woodard had 1153 in 1976.
I'm pretty sure the previous closest to that milestone was Bubba Bean with 944 in 1975.
