Jeff D and the deep pass

I've seen some Gator fans posting concerns about the deep ball. Found this article about the offense and thought it may ease some minds.

He attempted six deep passes, and five were on the mark. Only one was complete, though, as two more were drops (Quinton Dunbar, Andre Debose) and the other two were defensive pass interference penalties. Driskel is no Russell Wilson at Wisconsin, and he did have his customary should've-been-an-interception throw, but he will do a lot of positive things in this scheme.

I like the fact we were able to get these throws off and give our receivers opportunities to make plays. Last year, we couldn't even get these throws off. I'll be curious to see if UK presses our WRs.

They will more than EMU obviously and that's exactly what we want.

UK should get more pass rush pressure than EMU.

As we all know Driskel went 31/45 in the passing game. Here is a breakdown of where those 45 passes were targeted on the field.
Intermediate: 18
Screens: 11
Flats/Underneath routes: 9
Deep Pass: 6
Throwaway: 1
Percentage wise that is.
Intermediate: 40%
Screens: 24%
Flats/Underneath routes: 20%
Deep Pass: 13%
If it wasn't for the throwaway, Driskels completion percentage would of been 70.4%.
Kinda tired of people saying we did nothing but throw screens all day.

I'm tired because it's obviously wrong -- but even more...we still got 600 yards of offense.
If we can do that by throwing screens all day, so be it.
Whatever works is what's important.

Cool fact of the day. The yardage put up last Saturday was the 9th most in Gator history.

Praise Santa.
Although it was against EMU.
Now if we start doing that against teams of higher caliber we'll be unstoppable.
Like Oregon with a defense.

The WRs also had a few drops. The good news is that JD only threw one or two (OK, maybe three) bad passes. None of them hurt us obviously.
Those that complain about screens just need something to complain about. The fact is the short passing game was necessary because of the positioning of the DBs. There were 10-12 yards off the ball every dog gone play. The WR read that and adjust their routes and the QB takes what's there. It's not really rocket science but alas some folks still moan and groan.

I'm legitimately shocked that people were somewhat unhappy after the game. If anything: It's progress. It's much better than what we looked like last year and the team looks reborn.

What do you define as intermediate?
I thought Driskel did fairly well, but a 5ish yard yards/attempt isn't super great. Honestly, shocked we threw it 45 times.
