2nd time in 2 weeks you've used that.
Maybe next week you'll have worked up some new material.

My favorite Dooley story is a personal one.
About 10 years ago, my great uncle passed away. he was a HUGE, HUGE Georgia booster and knew the Dooley family well for years. Vince was a pallbearer at his funeral. I was also. Whole event was red and black including ex UGA players.
Being an Auburn grad, as we were standing there ready to carry Uncle Bill's casket, I whispered "War Eagle Coach!"... Dooleys remark was quick:
"Dont let your uncle hear you say that!"

Coach Dooley gave me a football when he was an asst. coach at Auburn. It was a practice ball and had API in big letters stamped on it....a good man.

Truth. A man who saw better, greener pastures, shook off a questionable beginning, and managed to make something of himself as a result.
Happy Birthday Big Dawg!

The street between Athens and Auburn has been long and gone both ways. Names like Erk Russell, Joel Eaves, Shug Jordan, Vince Dooley, Pat Dye, Rodney Garner, Tracy Rocker even today.
I'd send Van Gorder and Martinez back your way though.

Just like you don't want a drunk (Paul Bryant) associated with Nick Saban? Amirite?

quote:As usual, you're wrong. I would refer to coaches Frank Thomas, Gene Stallings and Wallace Wade in the same sentence with Dooley, Jordan and Eaves. Coach Bryant was simply the best college football coach that's ever come along, not a great moral example (even though you'd have a hard time convincing most of his former players of that).

Dooley and Jordan both won NC's. Dye should have.
Erk Russell founded the Ga Southern program and won NC's there.

Absolutely. Being a man of meager beginnings in the Mobile area, I am sure he was grateful to have the opportunity to better himself and mold what he would become at such a fine institute of higher learning. It obviously showed that the lessons he learned at Auburn would bring him such high accomplishments later on in life.
