They gave up 7. I never said they were world beaters, but they are certainly a better team than Southern Miss. It's too early to tell who will have the better defense between the Mississippi schools IMO, they should both be good.
ETA: I thought you were talking about the Boise State/USM game from last year. They only scored 7, and it was 13 points for our game this year.

Of course it absolutely can be.
If we were to hold Texas A&M to 14 points, that would be MUCH more impressive than if we were to hold Southern Miss to 0.
