Sims is a 5th year senior who still needed a lot of help with the play calling. He's no McElroy who can hide a weak arm.

I thought he played very well. But what you saw is what you're going to get with him. That would be fine if we played the 100+ ranked defense in the nation every week. I like him. I think he's a great guy, and if he's the best we've got at QB, then he's the best we've got.

But he can't stretch the field. You can't run the ball if the safeties are at the line. Saban's whole offense depends on the threat of a deep ball.

So, Blake can do some good things, but he's not a complete QB. Can Coker do better? We don't know. I get the feeling Saban wants to find out. Coker's obvious problem is he just joined the program and can't run the offense fluidly. Is he a BETTER passer than Sims? We don't know. But, he's at least more of a threat to throw it down the field. That alone isn't enough to win either. But we don't know what else he can do yet.

We have as much talent at WR as we've ever had. Yet, some of you want to limit them to catching dink and dunk passes. A good downfield passing game opens up the run game.

And those of you calling people racist for hoping another QB can do better ARE the racists. There are racist Bama fans, but the VAST majority of us just want to win games. Seventy-five percent of the damned team is african-american. Nobody cares. But YOU guys want to make it into a race thing, and it's already started. I've heard it on the radio this morning. Do you think Saban cares about race? He's going to play the guy he thinks gives him the best chance of winning. That's all anyone wants.

Sorry, I'm not ready to come to these conclusions after his first start.

No it doesn't. It depends on run-pass balance, protecting the ball, and accuracy in the short and intermediate passing game.

And some of you are going overboard on this "can't stretch the field" critique IMO. Yeah he missed a couple but what QB doesn't? That 1/5 on 15+ yard passes they showed? They flashed it immediately after CJ dropped his second pass of 15+ yards. 3/5 on deep passes is actually really good, but by all means, lets write him off because of 1 misleading stat in his first game.
