Then we get a question about Printz.
I'll be honest, the same question crossed my mind.
Not with the idea of replacing Mauk, but wondering if the coaching staff plans on grooming a reserve with a series or two per game as in season's past. And if so, Printz would the one I'd groom.
That said, it's clear Mauk needs all the reps to try hone his game and build chemistry with his receivers.
Here's an opinion piece from today's Trib that gives a balanced evaluation of Mauk's pros and cons.

The fact that we couldn't build a big enough lead against a FCS opponent to make wholesale substitutions, should be a concern, and one of those subs should be the backup QB.
It's still somewhat amazing that Mauk can hit those 40 yard plus passes almost effortlessly, but struggles to get it close enough to his big TE to get a hand on it at 10 yards out. Is it possible his coaches are in his head about throwing a pick? Whatever the problem is they better get it the fuk worked out and pronto, had we played any of A&M, UGA or Auburn yesterday, we would have gotten our azz handed to us in a paper sack.

I don't think anyone is jumping off the ledge, other than a drunk post here or there. I do think it's ok to critique their play. Hell, I'm sure GP and staff are critiquing it and aren't too happy with their play. That doesn't mean we jump straight to Printz or Berkstresser. All it means is that Mauk threw for 170 something yards in a game that he should have been padding his stats. That the OL wasn't giving the kind of protection that it should have been against a vastly inferior team.
The thing that frustrated me the most is that there are only so many games that we will be able to get the back ups significant reps in. And I'm not saying reps in order to replace anyone but reps in case someone goes down. That was one opportunity wasted, and probably the most likely opportunity to do so.
Having said that, bring on Toledo. Hate having to wait a week to see what changes/improvements come with next week.
