pre 1936 nattys will always be subjective, however, if u didnt win the ap after 1935, either ap or coaches after 1949 or the ap/bsc after 1997 then u have no national title to claim. no one cares about non wire service nattys in the poll era.
i think lsu rightly counts 3. all wire service or bcs national titles.

You're forgetting the FWAA (starting in 1954) and the NFF (starting in 1959).
