Of course death threats are over the line, but so is equating Toomer's Corner to just trees. That's just not true in the least bit.

If something is really, and I mean really, important...it outlast tangible things.

Updyke is not right in the head. But one thing that needs to be pointed out was the jersey on the Bear statue that set him off.
Granted that is a harmless prank in reality, but it was enough to cause a man with very questionable mental stability to feel like he needed to seek vengeance.
There have been several instances of jerseys on statues, and the IB score branded into the grass.
Does this compare to the tree killings? No, but the Barn and Corndog fans are not without sin so to speak.
