In our modern free-spoken society
There is a word that we still hold taboo
A word with a terrible history
Of being used to abuse, oppress and subdue
Just six seemingly harmless letters
Arranged in a way that will form a word
With more power than the pieces of metal
That are forged to make swords

A couple of Gs, an R and an E, an I and an N
Just six little letters all jumbled together
Have caused damage that we may never mend
And it's important that we all respect
That if these people should happen to choose
To reclaim the word as their own
It doesn't meant the rest of you have a right to it's use

So never under estimate
The power that language imparts
Sticks and stones may break your bones
But words can break hearts
A couple of Gs - jeez, unless you've had to live it
An R and an E - even I am careful with it
An I and an N - and in the end it will only offend
Don't want to have to spell it out again...

And this is what's wrong with the entire situation. Making a word, a collection of letters, acceptable for one group of people but a complete no-no for another group...what sense does that make? Either the word should not be said by anyone at all, or it should be ok for everyone. This stupid arse poem is trying to prove how bad of a word it is, yet advocates some people being able to use it while it's 'off limits' for others. BS.

The song is about Ginger's who are both straight and white. What word did you think the song was about?

Suburban white kids are using it among themselves as a term of endearment. It's losing power every day.

Nope. if its ok for you to use, it should be ok for others to use. And this isnt restricted to just black/white.

The word "ese" is similar with southern california hispanics. Basically it means friend (homie, dawg, etc.) but if a whitey uses it...oh hell. its ON.

If its intended as some sort of race specific use term, then expect it to get made fun of or abused by those who are left outside the group. Thats just human nature.

I am taking back porch monkey - Randall in Clerks II

FWIW, I am older and porch monkey was not a term exclusive to the african race. We were called porch monkey's, yard ape's, tree trolls, crumb grinders, and ankle biters as kids and it was an all ginger group.
