Be honest.
Does the University of Alabama (Bama) really control what goes-on in Birmingham (B-hama) and therefore, by proxy, control the SEC?
Now, this is a serious question.
Tobacco Road controlled the ACC and SCAR told them to frick-off, sued, won, and now the ACC is regretting the shite out of their ... well, actually, Tobacco Road still controls the ACC. (The SCAR vs ACC thing was about double-standards in academic admissions, SCAR won the suit and left the ACC.)
But anyways, Texas controlled the Big 12 and A&M and Mizzou and others all told them to take a flying frick and now the Big 12 is regretting the shite out of their ... well, errrr, there was that win over Bama in NOLA this past January. (The A&M/Mizzou thing vs Texas was about the LHN. A&M and Mizzou let the LHN stand and now they have the SECN.)
Why do we allow Bama to control this thing of ours? Who the frick appointed them the Genoveses of the SEC?
Is it because they control B-hama? Is their advantage mainly in scheduling as well as demanding who their permanent opponent is, as well as not letting Auburn move to the East?
I mean scheduling is hugely important, perhaps the most important thing one can control once the season starts, in the SEC, amirite?
On a side note, if Bama controls B-hama, how have you Auburn fans tolerated this for so many years? Have you had to fight instate battles with them and B-hama or has it benefited you, being in the same state with Bama and B-hama? Or has it been because of sheer will and perseverance that you have done as well as you have over the years?

This is the dumbest fricking thread I have ever seen.

what the frick is a Genoveses

Hate to tell you this, but I doubt the ACC misses USCe in the least. Nothing wrong with y'all, but you don't bring anything to the table that other teams in the ACC don't bring to a greater degree.

This thing of ours. Bama sorta claims to control B-hama like Vito controlled NYC and the five boroughs.
But why do we let Bama control everything?
It's obvious they do.

Look no further than Auburn moving home Iron Bowls to the Plains back in 1989 instead of continuing the whole "neutral site" thing back at Legion Field...

What exactly do you think it is that Bama has done? When AU wanted to move the Iron Bowl to Jordan Hare, they got their way....they get to preserve the DSOR just like we wanted to to preserve TSIO. Bama hasn't pulled a revenue grab like Texas despite being the most succesful team in the league by far...AU going to the East is a realignment issue that involves all of the schools. At the end of the day, AU's interests are more or less the same.

I just did ... new phrase coined. I took some literary license with "Bama" and "B-ham" implying a cajoining (sic) if you will, for the more intelligent members who understand, the perceived "born in the uterous" relationship between Birmingham and the University of Alabama.
Were I still writing, I could make quite the column out of this ... rather, I am sharing the idea with the SECr, the intelligent members and rantards alike.
Let's face it, even Bama fans have to admit they love knowing that they control the conference through B-hama. They fricking talk about it all the time in private. High-fiving at bars and Christmas dinners. Scratching it on stalls in the truck stops toilets in B-hama, "we OWN this place." I'm not knocking it ... I'm just sorta jelly I guess.

You're right, we should have SEC HQ in North Dakota.

Maybe, maybe not re football. I'm not sure you'd outmuscle Clemson and FSU, or even UNC, for recruits if you didn't have the SEC's reputation to fall back on.

If Bama controlled everything, the SEC championship would have never been taken out of Birmingham and put in Atlanta, where I believe UGA has gone the most since its been there.

Hey, listen, I was playing devils advocate.
Did I not specifically ask if all the claims that Bama controls B-hama were all about scheduling?
Nothing but scheduling?
Other than that has Bama pulled any power plays against others in the conference? Have they slung their weight around in the least?
I remember a couple two or three years ago when something like three or four teams had off weeks prior to playing Bama and Saban was not happy about that.
Will that ever happen again while Saban is still coaching there?
