Gotta run with the lowest labor costs possible. What you save in price you lose in the experience. It's why those who can afford to are shopping other places.

I actually did a price comparison between WM and Publix a few years ago on some of our regular purchases and Publix wasn't that much more expensive. The biggest difference was in meat, produce, and health & beuaty products. Bread, cereal, cheese, etc. were pretty close in price.
