Anyone ever write a great song only to realize that you wrote it in a key that you can't sing in?
I have one song that is absolutely incredible, probably the best one I've ever written, but I didn't realize that I couldn't sing it until I'd finished it (lyrics and all). I also realized that it would be extremely difficult to transpose into another key due to the way the hook/intro is played.

changing keys is easy man. you can do it on paper even...sometimes you get something that just isnt quite right.. play around with some stuff that is close, and you can find a way to make it work.
You know.. if it turns up that an F doesnt sound right, try A minor, if C doesnt sound perfect, try E minor....or the other way around.

Can't be done with the hook (and that's the best part). The only way I could do it would maybe be with use of a capo, but that sounds lame (plus, I'd have to buy a capo ).

Man,you live in Louisiana, you can make a doo rag and a pencil and a clothes pin work as a capo!Geezus...

I have a Tascam digital recorder that replaced my cheap cassette player a couple yrs ago, always have it handy when I'm pickin on the git fiddle, something seems interesting or has a good groove I make a recording and if words are coming along at the same time I record them with the chord changes, I just wish I could get more of the songs ideas completed, frickin ADHD

I play for myself, just for the fun of it. I've been wanting to put a band together for years to play some of my stuff, but I've never had the time AND the other other musicians at the same time.
We'll have to setup Skype to exchange ideas and collaborate, then exchange files to work up the songs. If it takes off I guess we'll call it "The Ranters"

It's part of what I do for a living. We generally set aside times throughout the week for writing sessions. If ideas come at random times, I either jot them down on paper or on the memo deal on my phone. Sometimes the idea for the music happens first. Sometimes it's a phrase or whatever words come to mind. Just depends on the day.
