Largely considered one of the top 5 defenses to ever play the game.

And those numbers are all clearly skewed by the crappy competition you faced that year, am I right?

Bama faced a whopping 2 offenses that were inside the top 70 in scoring offense in 2011, and one of those was LSU. Your defense didn't face anyone that year that could be considered a really good offense outside of Arkie, and you got them early before Tyler Wilson had even settled in as a starter.

Auburn at least faced 5 top 50 offenses in 2004, which is more than I can say for 2011 Bama. And we held all of those offenses but Arkie under 14 points (and Tenn in a rematch after we let off the gas).

Trying to use schedules as a reason to discount a team is dumb as hell period, but doing so when your own championship teams have had crazy easy schedules is just beyond silly.

1995 Nebraska had a crazy easy schedule, doesn't stop them from being one of the best teams of all time.

Auburn only led Tennessee by a touchdown at the start of the 4th quarter. It's pretty stupid to let off the gas when you're only up by 14 at halftime.

There's a reason why Auburn didn't get into the BCS National Championship Game in 2004. It's because the SEC was perceived as weak. Auburn was a great team in 2004 but, like the SEC in 1992, the league only consisted of one great team and a couple of good ones.

Alabama was able to maintain its lead over FSU and Texas A&M in the polls that season due to its name.

They played (and destroyed) 4 teams that finished in the top 10.
