While I like those two, that can't be a fair statement. Different times and different styles. Let's say, for example, that a team from the '40's era had an absolute dominant defense - could one say that was the best defense ever? If so, then why - since the game has changed so much in style from era to era.

A better comparison might be to say which is the greatest from a certain era?

This is why it's hard to compare 1959 Tarkenton to 2013 Murray.

Different game, different era, different attitude, different ideas on health/nutrition/weight training.

Bottom line is, Fran was supposedly really good and probably ran his offense as well as Aaron ran his.

Are offenses more complex than those in the 50's? Some like GAs are. Others like Techs offense may not be. Did Joshua Nesbitt run Techs offense as well as Murray ran GAs?
It's certainly debatable.
