I don't think this applies to the majority of UGA fans, but I guess that isn't your main point.
It applies to the main UGA posters on Rant. They have just now settled back down from Matthews transferring. Even though they don't care.

Matthews transferring

I'd be pissed for a day or two if we lost a safety with potential to UGA/Bama. then from thereon he would be a thug POS I would hate on when we played them and root to have an injury regardless of if he fixed himself/turned into a good kid. That's about it though.

I don't think it's an obsession with Auburn thing, I think it's a frustration of losing players with talent that make stupid decisions to another SEC school, especially a rival. If Louisville was in the SEC, or Marshall and Matthews transferred to Tennessee or Florida I think UGA fans would be just as annoyed. For Matthews specifically I think that the majority of the fan base cares he transferred despite what we say. He had so much talent, but we never got to see it because of the combination of Grantham's teaching, injuries and a kid that couldn't get out of his own way in making the right decisions. I would have loved to have him on the team if he started doing things right, but since he was given that opportunity and didn't, I'm glad Pruitt and co. weren't going to put up with it and re-start the trend of poorly disciplined UGA players.
