longevity is not appreciated like it use to be

Longevity, in and of itself, isn't really anything to celebrate. It shows nothing on its face: is someone staying on because they are successful; or because they are simply well-connected; or because they aren't really that good, but there's no better option to replace them; or because they are the most affordable; or because higher-ups fear change; etc., etc., etc.

You can make a decent argument that Richt's longevity is because of his success - he's had a lot of winning seasons, and the program is generating a lot of money.

But, you can make an equally decent argument that his longevity is because of some other reason like connections or fear of change - for all of his "success," he's never won a title during the same span when his peers have racked up a bunch of them; there have been lagging problems with discipline, execution, and conditioning throughout his tenure; plus, his teams always seem to be in the process of rebuilding without ever actually getting there.

what kind of connections? Like he has dirt on someone so that's why he's still here? That's laughable.

or fear of change

That's a very valid reason, IMO. For every Nick Saban out there, there's about 10 derek dooley or ron zooks

We obviously all want a title. That doesn't have anything to do with his longevity. And his peerS aren't racking up a bunch, Nick Saban has racked up a bunch.

That's stupid

execution

liiiikee....not scoring a TD on every play? Every cfb team ever struggles with execution..in every game. I'd say our numbers will show we've executed pretty darn well since he's been here. Defense? That's another story, and I believe 95% of dawg fans are happy that our most recent 'lack of execution' problem is no longer here.

and conditioning

also silly.

Every team except bama under saban and UF under meyer has had to "rebuild" do some extent. And hell even UF in 07 lost 4 games. Unless your roster is filled to the brim with 4 and 5 stars like bama's is now..there will be growing pains. Hell look at LSU last year.
