Yep. Not a fan of Barnhart either. He brought us Billy G and Joker. Calipari hired himself, but I will give him credit for the Stoops hire.
It's not just about football and basketball. Our entire athletics department is in much better shape now.

They need to spend far more on football than basketball, period.

After the presidents promised that they wouldn't to keep us from appealing and going to the Sugar Bowl.

Who else was in the six? I assume LSU was in the four opposing and that Bama and Auburn voted against you but I don't know

Discussions? How many schools did the SEC, Big Ten, ACC, Pac 12, and Big 12 have discussions with recently? Talking business is a part of life and only a moron would not at least listen to what is being offered...

I don't know. We still have the actual trophy though.

Not to worry. You got our ugly little brother. You're going to learn to hate Louisville fans. If you think N. C. State fans are delusional...
The ACC approached UK, not the other way around. The Big X also approached UK. It would have been foolish not to listen to what both conferences had to offer.
Ultimately, our administrators decided we have an unbreakable affiliation with the SEC. I can't imagine the Wildcats in another athletic conference. It's home.

There's nothing we could've done about it back in the 90's. They pussied out on their own.
I always heard that it was ultimately Bowden who got cold feet - that article says some of the hard feeling was because the SEC felt like it was 'led on' by FSU. If you couple that with their own Sliger's own statements that he felt like FSU was an SEC school and hell the rest of his statements like "I can understand why they feel that way...had to do what's best for out student athletes...we harbor them no ill will" and yadda yadda it certainly gives credence to the Bowden was the one who backed out because it sounds very much like Sliger wanted to join, thought they were joining, and is in that article trying to say 'I'm sorry guys, I got overruled - thought we were joining you.'
At any rate, I'm glad FSU didn't join even though in a lot of ways that might've been a good fit. However, they've also been one of the dirtiest programs in CFB (I'm talking beyond your standard stuff) and have consistently had issues that were either outright covered up or simply not prosecuted. And we all know it's not minor shite - not following up on a weed or alcohol charge isn't even in the same league as some of the stuff that has always happened in Tallahassee.
And for the record, I'm also glad UK stayed but of course I've got a lot of love for the UT-UK rivalry (that spans football and basketball).

Me too, but I hope the football side become more competitive as time goes on.

I'd like to see both fire up and be more competitive because when they're hot, it's really a lot of fun. We share such an enormous border with one another that virtually all of us have relatives, friends, neighbors or co-workers to annoy the crap out of each other.

Hopefully we'll be rid of Muschamp by then.

It would be fantastic if UK could be rivals with UT again. There was some awesome history between the two schools. Not much, but some.

You guys are forgetting a couple things.
The ACC had a huge basketball revenue agreement back then. It rivaled the SEC in football. While it still makes tons of money, the SEC trumps all by far these days and for the years to come. We got the coaches fans "love to hate," in Saban, Spurrier, that loudmouth at Tennessee and Malzahn. It's a war every Saturday.
Lexington is a terrific road trip. Anyone who doesn't like that part of Kentucky is nuts.

My FIL played BBall for UT back in the late 50's. We buy him something orange every year for his birthday. UK/UT is a big family rivalry for me.
