College football is extremely cyclical. Teams that have no business fizzling out can spiral downhill out of nowhere. It's the nature of the game. Examples:

Notre Dame, Texas, Michigan, USC, Bama a few years ago... It happens.

These predictions mean squat.

Good point. Tennessee has gone in the dumpster as well.

ND is a nation wide recruiter, so is Michigan, bama now is also, but bama could stay regional and not drop off the others not so much. Texas, LSU could stay in state except for 3 or 4 recruits a year and dominate. These southwest schools aren't going anywhere. A down year here and there doesn't mean the team is in decline but reloading for the next.

No. I hate how people say this. What happens is sometimes several thingz, or one thing.

-Your division or conference gets tougher
-Your coach retires, gets older and less productive, or moves on to another job (likely the NFL,)
-A scandal or major violation occurs
-A great OC or DC leaves and the HC can't replace them with the right guy (this usually leads to firing of HC, and could send team through years of bad HC hires)

Each decline is easily explained. It just doesn't happen out of nowhere. Some program rises can be the cause of a great player or players. Some a great HC, OC, or DC hire. Others can be the fall of another program that cause this program to get better recruits and easier wins.
