ND is a nation wide recruiter, so is Michigan, bama now is also, but bama could stay regional and not drop off the others not so much. Texas, LSU could stay in state except for 3 or 4 recruits a year and dominate. These southwest schools aren't going anywhere. A down year here and there doesn't mean the team is in decline but reloading for the next.

If LSU doesn't contend this year, they would be considered as an underachieving program on the same level as UGA. Three straight years without sniffing a West Championship should be unacceptable.

It all depends on if a top level coach wants to step into Saban's shadow directly after he leaves.
But if we do decide to try and see if Smart can keep Saban's program going (again I hope we don't), as long as he isn't so naive that he lets boosters run our recruiting, he'd be better than Dubose. Smart getting fired after three years won't kill our program, but him getting us on probation would.

Two losses and tied with A&M is not the level I would consider Championship play. Follow that up with a loss in the CFB. Were LSU Fans happy with those results ?

The trend is toward Offensive Coaches over the next few years. That is why I said this is the critical year for Smart. If his Defense has problems with the HUNH Teams again, the ship might have sailed for him at Bama.

Neither LSU, auburn or A&M have ever approached Alabama's record as a consistently elite CFB program. Not even close.

Without sniffing it? I recall being very close to a west championship and possibly national ship a couple years ago in deathvalley. If LSU wins that game things would of been much diff. That's pretty darn close IMO

May be taking longer then it should of but who cares? Everyone knows LSU is and will be a power to deal with, ask any coach or opponent of LSU not some butt hurt rival fan
