Alabama will always be great in football. We won the SEC with Mike Dubose.
Let's not surgarcoat the Dubose, Franchione, Price, Shula years. Alabama was one of the worst programs in the SEC for close to a decade. A couple good years sprinkled amid bottomfeeder status is not great. Look at our recruiting back then. Our talent level was probably 7th or 8th best in the SEC. Major recruits were not even considering us. Our most prized recruit one year was a 5.7 3 star from Mississippi who we declared the savior of the program because we stole him from the Mississippi schools. Fans were shouting "Jimmy Johns" from the stands demanding Shula play him more. How freaking embarrassing is that? We were awful.

A lot of that had to do with the violations and penalities.

It's experiencing the bad years that make the good years so great.

One of those teams has already fallen to mediocrity.

So one the three is going to fall because of a&m? You're drunk bro...

Answer: Whoever has the best coach. Auburn proved that they can compete with anyone with good coaching. Bama has proven what poor coaching can do to a program. LSU has the most narrow window of success/failure of all the programs. With Les the most they will lose is 4 games in a year, but they have a hard time with 13-14 wins. A&M will have TX nipping at their heels within the next 5 years. So whoever is leading these programs will determine who the top 3 will be.

SEC West football is an arms race to see who can keep up. I get nervous every year when I see tons of juniors leaving early. Has got to affect LSU long term.

It'll be Alabama. Without Saban keeping the head to head recruiting at 50/50 and stealing AU's media thunder, Auburn would be running circles around them at the moment.
When Saban leaves, no question Auburn will rule the state.

If they pick Smart, I agree with you. If they snub him for a big time coach, it will be interesting to see. I think this year will play a key as to Smart's chances of taking over for Saban.

Well LSU has already shown they can maintain success while dealing with a coaching change. Auburn hasn't shown consistency
Yeah, because winning SEC Championships under 3 different coaches in the last 10 years and going to BCS Championships under 2 different coaches in the last 4 years indicates that an overall program has no staying power.
At all.

Times Auburn has had back to back ten win seasons since 1960?
Once.
Once.

Just wanted to point out that Alabama got Beaumont tx native and number 1 defensive recruit in Texas.
The dude will be in the Olympics too.

That's because of crappy and gutless hiring of HCs. We hired Dubose (who had just one year experience as a DC) because of a freaking fax campaign by the fanbase...a freaking fax campaign. His inexperience allowed the rogue boosters to run the recruiting trail, which landed us on probation. Then we were screwed because no decent coach in their right mind wanted to go through the sanctions, so we had to hire a freaking glorified QBs coach to take the job. Throw in a coward and a drunken fool in between.
Hopefully we learned from our past mistakes when it comes to hiring our HC.

College football is extremely cyclical. Teams that have no business fizzling out can spiral downhill out of nowhere. It's the nature of the game. Examples:
Notre Dame, Texas, Michigan, USC, Bama a few years ago... It happens.
These predictions mean squat.

Good point. Tennessee has gone in the dumpster as well.
