I already congratulated Auburn on the pickup, but getting a senior one-and-done isn't going to make much of a difference in the long run. Pearl and staff also need guys that will stick around for 3 or so years and add some stability.

Strange to say in an era where college basketball careers are progressively shorter. Auburn needs to win soon. Every additional win adds credibility to what Pearl is doing, and enhances who he can bring in.

I would love for Pearl to bring in stud recruits who will stay here for 3-4 years, but those kids aren't coming to Auburn right now. I think Pearl will probably try for a mix of solid players who will stick for a while, and players who can make an immediate impact and raise our profile.

Haith tried that a Mizzou, there was no reason for Haith to do that at Mizzou because Mizzou has enough talent surrounding them where a program can be built/sustained instead of trying to put a good roster together from year to year.

Pearl is going to have a lot of ground to try to make up on the recruiting trail when his show cause expires.

Mason is already a senior.

It's one thing to bring in a talented freshman who could go pro, but then you also have the possibility of that player sticking around for another year. Just look at all the Kentucky freshmen who decided to stay.

You don't get that option with Mason. He has one year to play one. And saying he helps you win now remains to be seen. He might help you win a few more games, but it's hard to imagine that you make the tournament now just because you added Antoine Mason.

Once again, congrats on the pickup.
