From what I gather, the opposite is actually true.

Doctors aren't shoving pills down patients' throats - the patients are DEMANDING pills.

My wife gets yelled at daily for telling her patients that a change of diet and exercise routine would do wonders for them. She's been told several times to "shut up and give me my medicine to make me feel better".

Many moons ago I ran into an Astra Zeneca rep in an office. Funny guy.

He said, "I sell Toprol so the fat guy can eat another piece of pizza. I sell Nexium so the fat guy can eat another piece of pizza. And I sell Crestor so the fat guy can eat another piece of pizza. My job basically revolves around fat guys eating more pizza."
