We're not anti-gay we're just sick of the media making being gay something to be celebrated or special.

I'm straight, he's gay and we're all equally flawed human beings. Sexual orientation shouldn't be celebrated either way.

People aren't mad at Sam, they're sick of the media shoving this type stuff down our throat.

Part of it might be that Sam was an SEC player but part of it is definitely homophobia.

I think many of us are just tired of being called anti-gay, bigoted and homophobic because we refuse to openly celebrate homosexuality. The thought of two guys in sexual relationship is just plain nasty. I don't hate them. I wish them well.

In what seems like the blink of an eye western civilization has gone from diagnosing homosexuality as a mental disorder to something to be celebrated- or else.

Count me in that group. I refuse to openly celebrate homosexuality and the idea of engaging in a sexual relationship with another man doesn't appeal to me but I see a ton of stuff everyday on TV that is being forced on me - on all of us - that I'd rather not partake in but we don't see a thousand fricking threads about them in a day.

The Sam-explosion we're enduring is rooted in homophobia at least IMO. I have no problem if you crazy-internet-people-I'll-never-meet are homophobes, it doesn't affect me at all. I'm just saying I think some of ya'll are.

I don't think anyone is making you go to gay pride parades or else. No one is forcing you to be totes
cool with gays. But when you treat them with any less respect than you would a straight individual, just because they like dick or puss, you deserve to be called a bigoted piece of shite.

Michael Sam is brave. He may be getting positive media coverage now, but how long have he and other gay athletes had to stay closeted? If it weren't a big deal, then how come he is the first openly gay player in the NFL? Do you think he's the first gay NFL player? Of course not.

His life as an NFL player and as a openly gay man has been hard, and is only going to get harder. People will hate him because he was born different. Other players will be threatened by his presence. Coaches will see him as less than a man.

He was overjoyed to be drafted. Why can't people just let him have his moment? It was a long time before he could be who he really is, and it will be a tough road for him to go down from now forward.

Totally Agree. I don't care either way about gay rights.

Especially with the type of segment of the population that watches and participates in football.

Other posters are talking about softball RPI, so I don't think this board is very anti gay.

You couldn't make me if you you tried. I grew up a "stone's throw" from the French Quarter and I have never treated them with less respect. I have many friends that worked at Charity Hospital in New Orleans as nurses and x-ray techs and I have heard many stories of what gay men come into the emergency room with in their anus.

No one should treat him poorly because he's gay. But he also shouldn't get special treatment because he's gay.

Why don't a lot of folks get that (not saying you Patton just people in general)?

A lot of the most anti-gay people are angry and confused about their own feelings toward men. That must be rough.

I don't know but I agree. They should absolutely not get special treatment. Just treat them the same way you would anyone. Let their character speak for them not their loose buttholes.

What are you talking about? Just don't be shitty to people because of their sexual orientation. Is that really asking too much?

It's one of the best parts of joining the SEC. Where else can you listen to a t-shirt fan with a tenth grade education and 9 teeth bitch about the goddamn queers?

It's incredible entertainment.

Bullfrickingshit

He came out as a PR stunt. The cake shite was a PR stunt. As someone else pointed out, frick who you want. Doesn't matter to me. When you make it a spectacle you deserve what you get positive or negative.

Exactly we're all human beings and we all make mistakes and should each be judged by actions and character not our sexual orientation.
