My biggest complaint about the 'pubs at the moment is that they aren't being nearly obstructionist enough.

Last time that happened, Democrats were in office for a couple decades.
Same thing happened to the Dems during Reagan and Bush Sr., there was splintering within the party, you had the catastrophe of Jimmy Carter, and then the Republicans got an actor elected president twice.
I doubt that republicans get so bad that we elect President Clooney, but you never know.
