If not ever, when was the last time that tops this year IYO?

Clemson- starting off with a doosie. Likely at night, possible gameday, revenge factor for last year. Both teams should be in the top 15. An old school rivalry brought back to life.

UT- standard rivalry game. Also looking for "revenge" even though we won last year due to everything that happened in that game. UT looked at that UGA loss as a major step in their program, you know they'll be fired up for this one.

AU- defending SEC champs and national title runner up. After what happened last year I don't really need to even say anything about this one.

tech- our biggest rival.

In 2002 actually we had 3 of these teams at home as well. I miiiiight be inclined to actually say that 02 clemson game was bigger than this year's...actually yes I will say it was bigger for a variety of reasons. UT may be a wash, hard to say. But the AU game this year really takes the cake. I'm not sure we'll have seen athens like it will be for that game. Even after the 2010 fiasco when they came to Athens in 2011 I felt like it was relatively tame, probably because they sucked. But I just feel like this game will rival 08 bama and 07 auburn as far as pregame hype.

Damn, WG you've already got me fired up for that Auburn weekend. I agree that it will be one of those insane and special weekends.

Pre-season it looks like the best home slate I can remember since I've been paying attention (mid 90s).

Another addition to the schedule, sadly, is the revenge element with Vandy. That is obviously far behind Clemson, Tennessee, Auburn and Tech, but it's damn good for a fifth best game on the home schedule.

The only thing I disagree with here is that the nerds are our biggest rival. I'm an out of state student from Virginia, so I feel like I have a pretty objective view here. When we play Tech, there just isn't the same charged atmosphere of most other games on our schedule. The only UGA-Tech game I've been to was 2012 between the hedges, and it didn't feel like a rivalry. Honestly, it felt kinda like playing North Texas, Buffalo, or any of those other out of conference cupcakes we've scheduled lately. It was nothing compared to our games against Auburn, Florida, South Carolina, LSU, or even Tennessee. Obviously being the next biggest in-state school makes them a "rival" by default, but I think they're pretty far down the list these days. I guess this is an argument for another thread. Other than that though, schedule looks great.

I wouldn't call it objective, I'd call it ignorant.

I'm sorry, but unfortunately the rivalry just isn't what it once was. At least not for my generation of Georgia fans. Of course its nice to dominate the in-state rival, but I think we've reached the point where winning that game is expected year in-year out. They rarely even compete with us for recruits at this point. That doesn't sound like a very heated rivalry to me. Most current students would agree with me on this one.

Hey I realize that many of yall on here have been dawg fans and going to games for decades. Obviously you have a much deeper perspective on the school and its history than I do. Hell, I'm only 20 years old. I understand why this opinion would be an unpopular one for those of you who have been following the team a lot longer than I've been alive. But if you can't accept the opinion of a student as having some validity, then I think the ignorance is on you. Of course the rivalry is relevant in your eyes, you were there when Tech was a powerhouse. I'm not even saying its not a rivalry, I'm just saying its not the biggest.

Negative, sir. We are THEIR biggest rival. 'Tis a bit lopsided for quite some time, as you're well aware. GT is an in-state rival, a natural rival, and our perennial little brother, but I humbly submit that the southern mud lizards are our biggest rival.

And you couldn't possibly be more wrong. It is the biggest, it always has been, and always will be until the end of time. You're only 20 so I know I won't convince you, but you simply don't understand. As far as the whole "we beat them all the time" argument...UF beat us regularly from 1990 until recently, do you think their fans though of us as any less of a rival?

Go to a tech game in Atlanta and tell me it's no big deal. Wait til we lose to them once and tell me it's no big deal. Do a little research on the history of this rivalry and tell me they aren't the biggest.

I'm a recent graduate and only a few years older than you. And deeprig is right

And this nonsense
quote:

But if you can't accept the opinion of a student as having some validity

As a non Georgia student your opinion is valid only in that you're in the younger generation and a student. You can't speak for all fans our age or the students at UGA. And the thing is Georgia football is old, it didn't start in 2000.

Georgia Tech is our biggest rival. Only people who think otherwise are the kids who started watching Georgia a few years ago. I had my old roommate from Wisconsin who became a dawg in '10 try to explain to me how wrong I was about this as well. And that cannuuk frick was wrong too.

Here's the point. Georgia Tech is our biggest rivalry. It's not the most competitive rivalry but it's worse to lose to Georgia Tech than it is to lose to any other team. Georgia expects to defeat Tech. Why? Because it's our god damn job on this earth to continue to subjugate those little shits on North Avenue. Excuse me, it's not our job but our god given privilege as dawg fans.

Shame on you, skipjack. Now I'll expect 30 hail herschels and you must now watch that hour long youtube of all of UGA's TDs vs Tech in the Richt era. And not because you have to but because you have the damn privilege to do so.

No, I don't. Anyone who doesn't think tech is our biggest rival drops down a peg in my book. It doesn't matter what you, or I, or herschel or vince or any one person thinks about the subject. It just IS, man. I guarantee you there is a dawg fan living in augusta or columbia who would say SC is our biggest rival. There's probably some dawgs up in chattanooga that would say UT is our biggest rival. Or valdosta who claim UF. Or columbus who claim AU...see where I'm going? A school's biggest rival doesn't fluctuate depending on where certain fans live, or how the series is going the last 10 year. UGA, as in the school, the University...UGA's biggest rival is tech. It just is, and always will be, regardless of what you or I think about it.

South Carolina has beaten Clemson 5 years in a row.

I guess they aren't rivals anymore.

I plan to do this at my next opportunity. I traveled to Knoxville this past season and definitely gained a new perspective on what it means to play the Vols.

This is where you are winning me over. While the rewards of beating them of late have been lesser as winning is the expectation, I hadn't really considered that a loss to tech would probably be the most painful of any given season. I admit that I was basing my opinion on too small a slice of history, and in the big picture, yall are right. That said, I don't count the victories against tech among our biggest wins during my time as a bulldog.

That's more understandable. A team being your biggest rival doesn't necessarily make that game your biggest game in a given season. Rivalries are long term, big games are short term.

ETA: I hate Florida more than Tech too. It's ok. I have enough hate to go around. My heart is filled with darkness, overflowing in fact. I have enough hate left over for Auburn and Tennessee as well.

I think a lot of people will concede that a win over UF feels a helluva lot better than one vs Tech but it's the hatred and the absolute agony of a loss to Tech that does it for me.

I honestly hate Georgia Tech more than any other program but UF is very close and hell even Auburn is right there. But I grew up knowing that Georgia Tech was enemy number 1 and that offseason after 2008 was far worse than any other because of that abortion in athens to end the season

I watched that game with a bunch of Tech fans at Manuel's in Atlanta. It reinvigorated my hatred. I had also become complacent at that time.

Never again.

The gnats really know how to live it up on the once a decade win they get. That's what made the last game so great. They could taste victory and it's likely one of the best chances they had.

But they blew it and it was fantastic. I was not ready for an offseason of their crap.
