Two only semi-related metrics. You would need to compare rushing yards to rushing plays per game, or total yards to total plays per game. Mixing and matching the metric gives false indications.

To be fair, Auburn was #9 in the country in yards per play last year, and #3 in the SEC.

Texas A&M was #4 in the country and #1 in the SEC. Alabama was #6 in the country and #2 in the SEC.

In rushing yards per play, Auburn was #5 in the country and #1 in the SEC. Alabama was #8 in the country and #2 in the SEC.

For the record, South Carolina was ranked #44 in the country in rushing yards per play.
