I think/ thought that John Mitchell wad our first black player/ signee.
Guys, both things can be true to a certain point.
Yes we were already imtergrated because we had a couple of players signed, but still no black players had played and maybe Bear wanted us to play a team with black players at home to gauge the actions of the crowds vs opposing players.
So both things might very well be true, even though I agree the media does go overboard with the romanticized version of events.

Mitchell was key player in '71. He signed as a JuCo. Jackson was a freshman in 1970.
