I got laid off from my job, was doing contract work for the local air force base. I've been looking for work but can't find anything. I've used up all of my 401k since I've been cut off from unemployment.

Now the fricked up part.....our politicians are a fricking joke! Unemployment extension passed in the senate, now its gotta pass the House for it to take effect. House leader Boehner will not accept the deal that and wants the senate to come up with a better plan....how about you get off your lazy arse and come up w/ something to help out over 2million americans that are kicked off umemployment.

Also this whole time, they just got off a 2 week recess for Easter, and last month they had atleast a week off, if not two. Also, they dont' even work Monday or Friday. Also throw in the fact they already voted to give 1 billion dollars in aid to Ukraine, and spent 2.5 Million in aid to help look for the missing Malaysian plane.

After this shite, how they frick can they not pass unemployment extension? Plus what about welfare and food stamps? People who get them dont even have to have a job, but w/ unemployment insurance, you had to work so many consecutive years to qualify. Its not like people on unemployment haven't contributed to society, and you have to be laid off to qualify, not quitting or getting fired.

Ive been looking for a job, and even now trying to start my own business since I can get any work. I've been giving out estimates for jobs for people, but still hardly can get any work.

McDonalds, walmart, etc., are hiring. That is unless you are too good for something like that until better comes along...

OP sucks at life and wants to live off the government instead of doing what he's trying to do well enough to support himself. Bless his heart.

if those aren't enough to support his family, wasting 40+ hours a week instead of attempting to find a real job or generating private business probably isn't the best way to go about it.

You suck at life. OP seems like someone trying to get by in hard economic times.

So, doing what it takes to get by until something better comes along is not better than living with your hand out?

Over qualified! Why would they hire me when I will quit as soon as a better job comes along? Like I said, I've tried most places and still cant get shite, so i'm trying to get my own work, building decks, fences, etc. I dont put in 10 bids this past month, but nothing, and I know my prices are cheaper than most around here too. Luckily I got a house to paint next week.

I aint looking for sympathy, I'm trying to bring awarness to how fricked up our politicans are compared to the rest of America. They get lifetime pensions, per diem to travel to work (2,200$), and insane amount in salary compared to the people they are representing. Yet the american people are out of touch with reality. Also our GDP is fricked, our national debt is fricked, they bail out these corporations, but not its people.

jobs are totes walking down the street knocking on doors right now. You gotta hit the pavement to find one and standing behind the fryer won't facilitate that.

I've seen cases where employees were fired for poor performance, but were not denied unemployment benefits.

Some people can be nervous about letting someone they don't know or trust do work around their home.

I would have some references any potential clients could call so they know you won't steal anything.

Reduce your bills? Downsize your home? Sell a vehicle you rarely use?

Sometimes you have to sacrifice and adjust things to live within means. Get a lower paying job, work a part time job in addition. It's not the Gov't's job to provide for you. Suck it up. If you're healthy, there are jobs out there.

Word! I know some of the arse hats are just being a dick for the fun of it. But some of them probably really believe it and its making me lose faith in my fellow americans. I've been workin 10+ years and this is the first time I got laid off, and I was only on umemployment for 16 weeks.

to that.

May consider grass cutting as well. It's getting into full gear now for the season and decent money can be made doing this as well.
