Richt unsure about making punishment public

Mark Richt said he may not announce any discipline including possible suspensions for the four players who were arrested on the eve of spring practice before the Clemson opener.
“Every time I discipline a guy I don’t tell everybody what I do all the time,” Richt said. “Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t.”
He said that defensive linemen James DeLoach, Jonathan Taylor, safety Tray Matthews and receiver Uriah Lemay, arrested on theft by deception charges, have “behaved well” as of late.
“To this point, they’ve done pretty good,” Richt said. “They’ve handled the discipline I’ve given them to this point. There will probably be a little bit more before it’s over. I’ll let y’all know when. Maybe I will, maybe I won’t. I don’t know. If there’s something to announce, I’ll announce it.”

Personally I see the wisdom in his decision if he doesn't kick those guys off the team. He's tired of other teams picking these guys up and getting a NC appearance or better out of them. Why should'nt he rehabilitate them in house with or without suspensions?
If Coach would have just suspended us from games for our indiscretions it wouldn't have had a lasting effect. However, he ran us before during and after practice, loned us out to do community service for the school, made us clean the locker rooms after practice, and made us clean and polish equipment. As far as the amount of time we served...it depended on the crime and how bad it made the team look.
Noone was a repeat offender and we usually passed it along to freshmen coming in so they knew not to screw up either.
That said he really needs to work their a$$e$.
BTW cleaning locker rooms after practice was enough for me.

We might be missing some of that. Some of these 'croots need to be knocked off their high horse when they come in

I could be wrong but I don't think this is new. The past several years Richt has typically been coy about announcing punishments/suspensions.

You're right. He's been playing it closer to the vest as of late, but he still announced it at some point. To me this sounded like it might be handled in house for once

But this is Richt we're talking about...tomorrow he could say that he's taking the whole team on a mission trip and we forfeit the season

Anyone who thinks these guys aren't going to be suspended are fooling themselves. I know they will and so does Clemson. It is just the way Richt does business

I would be shocked if they aren't suspended for at least the Clemson game.

He only reason he would have to suspend them is if The NCAA takes interest in this case, he can administer in-house punishment till these fools get their heads right.

This is an inhouse thing, the NCAA has no grounds for interference. I think CMR would be more worried about the pressure from within the organization.

Doesn't it always leak out anyhow? Hell make them wash police cars on the weekend or give them a stick and a bag and have them pick up trash on campus....
Shame goes a long way into the fear of doing wrong.

It damn sure does, which is one thing that really pisses me off about this staff is they don't use it enough as a motivator. When players are suspended all the coaches still hug on em and encourage em on the bench during the game, other players are consoling them, etc. Frick that. The team should be pissed off. They should be so embarrassed by their actions they don't even think of running afoul again. Let em stand on campus with a sandwich board. Make em work in the dining hall cleaning trays. Put their mug in the red and black. Make everyone else on the team run 4:00AM stadiums while the player in question gets to sit at the 50 in a lawn chair. The team should be so pissed at that guy that everyone is terrified of doing anything wrong.

Since the Fearless Leader got here.

Call me crazy, but I don't think they're even gonna be suspended a whole game. Maybe half the Clemson game.
And if it is a whole game, it's gonna be an easier game than the first two.

Double dipping stipend checks, particularly if it went on for a while unnoticed, is the definition of impermissable benefit. If this happenned at auburn, we'd be screaming lack of institutional control, death penalty.
NCAA most certainly could be interested. This wasnt random check fraud, which would be an in-house issue.

When has Georgia or Richt ever done that?
I'll be surprised if we see them vs Clemson. Hell, maybe even USCe but definitely Clemson
