Said Mizzou fans expectation are too high for such a historically mediocre program. That comment just kind of rubs me the wrong way. Is it such a bad thing that fans want/expect more from our bball program? I guess we should just lay down and accept our mediocrity. Kind of crappy, in my opinion, to hear him make such a comment cause I have a lot of respect for Kimmie.

Kimmie has definitely become a mizzou boy. Doesn't mean he's always right though.

It's a comment made out of ignorance and youth.
He obviously didn't follow Mizzou basketball in the 80's or 90's.
Sometimes I think Kim just likes to hear himself talk.

Eh. He's young still. We had a shitty team the past two years and Haith was a shitty coach. There's no way around it. If the rumors are true, Haith (or his agent) seriously overestimated his bargaining position.

In a sense, we are a mediocre program, maybe slightly better than mediocre. How many final 4's? You'd think an upper level program would have at least one. I get there's more to it than that, but not even 1? But at the same time, I agree 100% that the fans shouldn't be satisfied with that. I'm perfectly good with fans being demanding of the coaches and holding them accountable.

Everybody was prepared for a rebuilding year. We weren't prepared for Haith ball. Which is unwatchable. There are plenty of teams who rebuild but still attempt to play defense and have more than 3 assists per game.
There's almost no defending the garbage we saw on the court (and off, for that matter) this year. Substitution patterns, defense, offense, passing and the lack thereof, no big man play, etc.

If the rumors are true
Do the rumors go something like this...
Haith: I'd like to talk to Tulsa about their job opening. Is that okay with you?
Alden: Of course you can. You have to do what's best for your career, but if your hoping for an extension/raise you might just want to stay in Tulsa.

quote:That's a little overrated as a programs measure in my opinion. We've been within a basket of the final four almost more than anyone. Norm was terrible about throwing everything into the conference tournament. If he had ever learned to rest his team he would have had two or three.

If thats the way it went down, I don't blame Alden a bit. The combination of poor on-court quality, off-court shenanigans, his own reputation issues, and woeful attendance? I wouldn't have given him a raise either.
Just be prepared to open the bank for a good coach. And check out the background a little deeper this time please.

Kim just likes Haith, as do a lot of people it seems. Guy was a solid recruiter. He's a really good asst. coach that wound up a HC.
He seemed to be mostly looking for an extension/commitment from Alden and didn't get it. Decided the seat was too hot. If he want's to stay a head coach was a smart decision.

I don't blame Haith either. I get the sense that he's a good guy, friendly, who identifies with the players. They like him. But, based on the quality of play, I'm not sure they respect him as a coach. I have no doubt he was a fantastic assistant coach. I just question whether he was over his head when it came to discipline (off and on court), Xs and Os, and dealing with get politics of administrators, boosters, etc. Seems like he's likable, just wants to be liked so much that maybe he's not strong enough as a person to navigate those treacherous waters.

He has the makings of a good AD. Not even being coy.

My first thought was, "F Kimmie".
However, coming from someone in the program, this should be a wake up call. It IS a mediocre program, it has been for over a decade.
Sure, there were a couple of Elite 8's, and some high seeds in the tourney, but all in all he's right. It has been mediocre, and it was on the verge of being pathetic.
Even the Norm years were mediocre, hell, a good portion of those years is why we all wear our collective nut cups. The football stuff sucked, but the basketball let downs were just as bad.
The fan base is a bit entitled, but the Norm years were fun to watch. It kind of set the bar high. Even with the mediocre finishes.
It's time for a big hire.

I can't stand Kim English, Mizzou sunshine pumper or not.

My beef with him wasn't that he said we are historically mediocre, it was that I got the feeling like he was saying that Mizzou fans should accept said mediocrity. He said that our expectations were too high. I'm not really sure what is wrong with having high expectations. We've never been to a final four, and in my opinion there is no reason for that. We have the resources to compete at the highest level, and I think we've historically under achieved.

That's odd. He speaks very highly of you

I agree, we, as fans deserve to have a team in the hunt. Mediocrity should never be accepted for any fanbase.
You can't guarantee Final Fours and Championships, but having a team out there that has a legitimate shot isn't asking too much.
The Norm teams almost always had a legitimate shot, I think that's where the bar is, Let's get back to that, and see what happens.

Couldn't agree more.

I agree with Kim. Some Mizzou fans think Mizzou basketball has this amazingly storied history. In actuality, our best coach had very little sustained success and didn't make the sweet 16 but a few times.
