In 1956, an assistant coach was found to have paid two high school recruits (twin brothers) $500 as an enticement to come to Auburn.

Well, that's not as bad as I would've thought. I imagined something SMU-esque was going down or something. $500 "enticements" were probably par for the course across the SEC during the 1950s.

AUs first serious probation was 1956-1957 and a result of two Bama assistant coaches both reporting AU and hiring a private detective to try to get something on AU after losing a recruiting battle for a Qb from hueytown named Donald fuell.

It was extremely circumstantial and would never have resulted inanything today.
