If so, what do you consider a big one? I just started about two weeks ago and caught a five and a half pounder last night. I thought I was reeling in a whale. I know they get much, much larger but I can't imagine hooking a 15 pounder.

I fish more for trout and smallmouth, but I would say 7+ lbs for a really big largemouth, depending on where you are. Some of those lakes in Mexico are full of monsters.
A 5 lb-er is a significant fish though

5 pounds is a solid fish but 7+ is a beast for sure!!! I live in the mountains so fish for trout now these days since there are no decent lakes up here but when I'm back home i love fishing for bass.

You can fish for trout and reds in the flats off tybee.

15 pounder would be a wall hanger and one you would never forget...hard to find that guy in a pond with any kind of pressure...cause they dont have the chance to grow...much like a huge buck deer

That settles it...I'll be calling in sick for the next week. Thanks!

If you need a guide give this guy a call. Savannah Fly

5 lbs is nice fish. I would consider a wall hanger to be 10+ in Georgia and much of the southeast. Mexican lakes can start reaching close to 20 lbs and anything over 13+ there is probably a wall hanger.

7-8 lbs is a good bass, there are guys who fish regularly for years who never hook a 10+lb'er. I think the average size for an adult largemouth is around or less than 3 lbs.

A 3 pound average in any lake is considered very damn good.

Fyi, most trophy sized bass are taken at night, for whatever reason. Ive only ever taken 1 over 5 in broad daylight.

I've been using topwater lures, would I use the same if I fished at night?

Thank you sir, I may do just that. One of my buddies has a boat and we're supposed to get on some reds but he doesn't know anything about trout.

Biggest smallmouth bass I ever caught was a 6 lb tank at dusk with a mouse fly.

My largest is a 10 pounder caught in a nearby lake. And yea, I would say that 7 lb. is a large/trophy worthy largemouth bass.
