is that enough to coach into perpetuity at their respective school?

Ask Bret Bielema

more than likely yes... but eventually they'll get restless and want more... look at Rick Stansbury. best basketball coach in MSU history fired for guy who's absolutely clueless.
I know it's not football, but the mentality is similar.

we don't have a rival so point is moot

But to answer your question, it would probably last 6-8 years before the OM fanbase got restless and found a reason to get rid of him. We have notoriously delusional expectations.
State would keep him til he died with an Egg Bowl win every year.

Babe McCarthy was probably our best basketball coach.

thanks for the answer, just trying to get an idea how vital winning the EB is. on the flip side would he survive 9 wins a year but horrible record in the EB?

I guess it depends on how well State was doing in the same time frame. We hate losing to them more than we like beating them, but if they were having losing seasons the whole time they were beating us then I guess who gives a frick. It would just be annoying.

Yes. 7+ wins at either school would get you at least 6 seasons.

You really are clueless about a situation you are trying to use as a comparison.

Probably.
MSU is 522-555-39 all time so 7-5 seasons puts them above their historical average. Throw in a win over Ole Miss and a bowl every year and that's as good a program as they have ever had.
Ole Miss is 636-497-35, which averages a little less than 7-5, so it would be about the same / a little better than their historical average as well. Again throw in a win over MSU and a bowl game every year and that's a better program than they have been historically.
