He bought a trailer outright, saved about 30k in rent during his time at AU then sold it when he left for 20k more. Walked away with an extra 50,000 by the time he graduated in savings and 80,000 in cash after he sold it. Pretty nice way to graduate and start to work.

Ok so saved 30k in rent. +30k
+ work/savings etc adds to 50k.

Then with the sale of the trailer 80k

but the trailer only sold for 20k.

hmmm. I can show you how 1 + 1 = 1 if you like.

Close, but trailer obviously sold for $80k if he walked away with an extra $80k in cash after selling.

Why his numbers work:
He didn't say he sold it for 20k, he said he sold it for 20k MORE. So if he bought it for 60, sold it for 80, he made an extra 20k from the sale and 30k from the "rent savings" and had 80k in cash.

Why his numbers don't work:
"Saving" money in rent does not equal real money. If I just bought an Acura for 7k less than the sticker price, that doesn't mean I now have 7 thousand dollars to spend.

Why it doesn't matter:
The story is probably complete bullshite like everything else that TnM claims.
