That's the nature of college ball. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't.

Like when Tenn was killing it in the late 90's?

Why do we want to continue with this method?

Traditional rivalries set college ball apart. I would seriously lose some interest, if traditional rivalries are lost.

So that means it's not worth trying something new? Status-quo foreva!!

1999, a year that worked out for Bama saw them go to the Swamp and get Tennessee. It was good that State was the only competition for the West crown that year. I don't like that the schedule makers can make or break champions. It's hardly an unreasonable position.

Enough to stop watching? I doubt it.

[Head explodes]

Who were they at a competitive disadvantage to? Florida was better than Tennessee. Most of the Western division was very down at the end of the 90s - MSU was arguably the most accomplished team from the west for a two year stretch. Auburn won 8 games combined between 98 and 99. LSU won SEVEN games combined between 98 and 99. That is terrible.

What would be wrong with just counting division games for the respective division championships? That would render the out of division rotation debates mostly moot and make competition within the division pretty equitable
