I agree. It takes some ginormous brass ones to fire a head coach two years after he won the BCS title with an undefeated team.

From a different view, Mitch is both good and bad depending on the hire.

He was at Tennessee, and got DeMoss and Mitchell from that source

He was at Oregon, and got Brooks from that source

He was at SMU which would have given him exposure to Texas A&M and may have gotten BCG from that source pool

Stoops sought out the UK job so Mitch was probably not the lead dog in that hunt

He failed to keep Cohen and now MSU has him

Pretty sure Cal was less his hire, and more at the insistence of a certain donor

As for other sports, he wanted a rowing team when they had no history yet continues to fail pushing equine sports - UK's polo club has a NC and the USPA is HQ in Lex. Hockey is still regulated to club status when the Cool Cats were drawing the 4th biggest crowds behind football, M basketball, and W basketball.

In short he has been good at sourcing things already in place from places he has already been but has yet to show he is innovative in out of the box thinking or hiring from places he has no ties to.

Meh. It didn't take long to realize the winner in that scenario was Cam, not Chizik. After all Chizik was 5-19 in his stint before. I think he caught "lightening in a bottle" with Cam, and then went back to normal.

Right move by the AD in that scenario.
